My step counter is innacurate / under or over estimated

Circular's algorithms are fine-tuned to recognize steps from the rest of your daily movement. Your ring is able to identify step patterns with a high level of precision (95% accuracy) from your finger.

However some parameters can cause the result to be distorted:

You need to take more than 4 steps in a row in less than 30 sec.
Constant vibrations (motorbike, driving, stroller, etc) against the ring can count for extra steps.
If you hold someone else's hand or move them very, very little, like putting your hand in your pocket while walking, the ring may go missing.

Other wearables or apps may show different step estimates because they use different methods of categorizing steps. Many trackers set a different threshold for what counts as a step while others categorize all movements as steps.

If you think that the ring underestimates a lot of steps, start by changing the hand you wear the ring first.
If you don't see any improvement, try to see if there are any data gaps in the activity intensity for example. Which can be the cause of unprocessed steps. If this is the case, you can contact the support team so that we can investigate at support@circular.xyz or through the website's chat.
